Illinois online lottery sales bill out of committee

An Illinois Senate proposal to allow sales of lottery tickets online has moved out of the Senate’s Executive Committee and on to the main Senate calendar.

The bill SB-3497 was introduced by Democrat Jeffrey Schoenberg in February.  For the latest updates on the status of the bill, see the Illinois General Assembly status information page for the bill.  The next scheduled action for the bill is a reading in the Senate on March 21st.

Illinois was one of the two states whose inquiries led to the recent DOJ opinion letter on the applicability of the Federal Wire Act to non-sporting wagers.
